Overview

I'm a freelance event coordinator / administrator seeking any part-time opportunities for contracted staff that may arise from time to time, and have included a summary of my working experience in the email below.

With over 25 years of working experience in hospitality, events and corporate, I’ve gained hands-on proficiency in various areas including management, administration, project management and procurement.

Having started in the events arena back in 2008, I have fulfilled many roles, and gained invaluable knowledge and experience from being a general event crew member being “thrown” in any and everywhere to working my way to being a full part of event organising and management teams. I was a full-time employee in the event space prior to covid, since then I work as a freelance event coordinator, administrator and project manager depending on what specific role is required.

In the corporate / public event space, I was involved in large sporting / outdoor events, exhibitions, festivals, and on a smaller scale some theatre and TV productions.

Some of the events I have worked on include: the 947 Ride Joburg (Cycle Challenge), 947 Ride Joburg Short Ride (Start Director 2019), 702 Walk The Talk, Jeppe Marathon, 947 Discovery Rhythm Run, Spring Classic MTB/Trail Run, Nedbank Golf, Wings for Life World Run, and many others. I have also provided support crew services for various festivals such as Appetite Fest, InfoChef, Rand Show, ParkLife Joburg (2023), The PlantPowered Show and others.

My years in the hospitality and event management industry have allowed me to develop an all-encompassing knowledge of event management requirements, from start to finish, which includes but is not limited to dealing with exact event requirements, venues, timelines, legal obligations, pre-event planning, staffing, budgets, event load-in, event day management, event strike, post-event debrief, reporting and feedback.

I have worked with numerous key stakeholders, role-players and sponsors. Event operation duties exposed me to working with the crucial array of suppliers, vendors, attendees, venue management, event crew, JMPD events, CoJ, EMS, hiring companies, sound companies, event security companies, cleaning and recycling companies, venue and stadium management, event medical, traffic free flow, search and rescue, resident and resident associations, taxi associations, ward Cllrs, and more. In addition to these, I have gained valuable experience working in both JOC and VOC environments.

My overall organisational, administrative, attention to detail and operational experience enables me to easily and quickly adapt to the working environment while working under pressure, and still remaining cool, calm, and collected. Moreover, I have excellent time management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to “multi-task”, prioritise and make sure what needs to be done gets done.

Other job responsibilities I’ve undertaken include budgeting, event procurement, logistics, contractor negotiation, development of timelines, load-in and strike schedules and plan, daily reporting and updates, staff recruitment and management, and post-event reporting and debrief.

As a freelancer, I am committed to being professional at all times, adding value, and contributing to the overall success of events. I am actively seeking new opportunities where I can apply my expertise and experience while being exposed to new skills and experiences to further develop and grow my industry knowledge and experience.

While I am currently Joburg based I am able to travel.
