During Milan Design Week – Fuorisalone 2023, I worked as Media Server Operator for the KIA Opposites United installation. Nerdy Artist Union was responsible for the creative production and editing of the video content. My responsibility covered the technical management of the supplied media, content verification, media server preparation, playback operation and correct delivery of the video signals to the LED system. The work included: • verification and preparation of the supplied video assets;• media server configuration and content organisation; playback and live output management;• verification of formats, resolutions and compatibility with the LED system;• monitoring of the video signal chain and final LED output; coordination with the creative and technical teams; technical troubleshooting during preparation and operation. The objective was to ensure that the approved creative content was displayed consistently, reliably and in the correct visual format throughout the installation. During the preparation of a complex live event, the originally planned LED support structure was found to be unsuitable for the required installation. The issue represented a significant operational risk: without a safe and technically appropriate alternative, the LED system could not be installed according to the production schedule. Within one working day, I supported the reorganisation and onsite coordination of an alternative solution involving approximately 200 metres of truss structure. My responsibilities included: • identifying the technical and operational limitations of the original solution;• evaluating the impact on the LED installation and production schedule;• supporting the definition of an alternative technical approach;• coordinating materials, technical teams and installation priorities onsite;• checking the compatibility between the revised structure and the LED configuration;• coordinating activities between the LED, rigging and production departments;• monitoring progress and managing technical priorities under severe time constraints;• supporting the final operational verification before the installation was put into service. The main result was the recovery of a critical situation without losing control of the installation process and production schedule. The project demonstrates my approach to technical coordination: identify the real problem, communicate the risk clearly, organise the available resources and implement a practical solution in cooperation with the responsible technical departments. For a time-critical live-event production, the technical team was required to install and commission an LED system that was new to the local crew and had not previously been used within the usual production workflow. The limited preparation time created several potential risks, including incorrect assembly, configuration errors, incompatibility between components and delays during system commissioning. My role was to analyse the available technical information, understand the operating requirements of the system and help transform them into a practical installation procedure for the onsite team. My responsibilities included: • reviewing the available technical documentation and system specifications;• identifying the main operating requirements and technical limitations;• checking the compatibility of LED modules, processing equipment, signal distribution and power requirements;• supporting the definition of the assembly and commissioning sequence;• coordinating the technical activities of the installation team;• supporting the configuration of LED processing and signal distribution;• verifying video inputs, resolution, scaling and final image output;• identifying and resolving technical issues during setup and testing;• explaining the essential operating procedures to the technicians involved;• carrying out final operational checks before the system was used for the event. Despite the unfamiliar technology and restricted preparation time, the LED system was installed, configured and made operational within the required production schedule. This project demonstrates my ability to understand new audiovisual technologies quickly, identify their practical limits and convert technical information into clear actions for the onsite team. For a complex live-event production involving video, LED, audio, lighting, content management and multiple technical suppliers, I provided technical review and operational coordination across the different production departments. The main challenge was not a single piece of equipment, but the interaction between multiple systems, suppliers, responsibilities and production requirements. Before installation, the available technical documentation was reviewed to identify missing information, potential incompatibilities and operational risks that could affect setup, rehearsals or the event itself. My responsibilities included: reviewing technical drawings, equipment lists and available production documentation;• collecting and clarifying technical requirements with production managers, suppliers and operators;• checking the compatibility of video sources, media servers, processing systems, LED displays and signal destinations;• reviewing the audio, video, data and control signal paths;• identifying missing information, unclear responsibilities and potential technical bottlenecks;• preparing connection diagrams, operational checklists and technical notes;• coordinating activities between video, audio, lighting, content and production teams;• supporting equipment setup, system testing and technical rehearsals;• managing technical modifications and last-minute production requests;• monitoring the systems during the event and supporting rapid troubleshooting when required. The result was a clearer operational structure, improved communication between departments and a more controlled technical workflow from preparation through final delivery. This project represents the working approach developed by DK AV Project: analyse the complete technical system, make responsibilities and signal paths understandable, identify risks before they become onsite problems and provide the production team with one coordinated technical point of reference.
